THE ARTIST

I come from a masia  ( traditional Catalan farmhouse rooted in the countryside.) — we are people of few words and deep perseverance.
I'm Meritxell Claverol, a visual artist from Pallars Jussà, Catalonia and living in Los Angeles). I spent 20 years immersed in the fashion world, a world that has always been my passion — my way of expressing myself, of transforming emotions into shapes, textures, and color. For me, creating has always been a refuge — a space where I can be free, where I can speak without words.
But over time, that creative space began to feel absurd — swallowed by mass production, constant travel, and rushed decisions, always racing to meet deadlines. Always following trends to serve and satisfy the consumer.
The act of creation had turned into a kind of servitude, a never-ending race. Little by little, I started to feel like I was drifting away from myself — and from what my hands truly wanted to do. Returning to your roots matters. It’s what keeps you grounded.
When COVID hit, the raw material supply chain collapsed. And with it, so did my work.
That moment forced me to stop. To pull back. To reflect on the meaning of life — and how it had always been intertwined with my creative process.
I had gone from making… to managing the making.
It was time to rewind.
